NerdQaxe++ LAN Adapter Kit is a very simple adapter shield that allows you to use a LAN connection for your NerdQaxe miner in cases where your Wi-Fi connection is unstable or congested or just has too much network latency.

NOTE:

  • Average LAN network latency range to a local hosted bitcoin pool : ~ 0.50 ms to 1.0 ms
  • Average Wi-Fi network latency range to a local hosted bitcoin pool : ~ 7 ms to 10 ms
  • Average Wi-Fi network latency range to an external hosted bitcoin pool : +10ms to 250 ms

It requires a modified NerdQaxe++ esp-miner fimrware with LAN drivers support such as https://github.com/CryptoIceMLH/ESP-Miner-NerdQAxePlusLAN . The current official NerdQaxe++ esp-miner firmware does not have LAN support for T-Display S3 controller, we are working to have it included.

  • The LAN speed of the Wiznet W5500 LAN module is rated at 10 / 100 Mb/s and the SPI connection speed from T-Display S3 has a maximum of 80 Mb/s under ideal conditions. From our tests , The actual maximum connectivity LAN speed we achieved was in the range of 30 Mb/s ~ 50 Mb/s . That’s way better than typical Real-World  T-Display S3  2.4GHz wi-fi speeds which technically you expect around 100-150 Mbps, but in reality you get 20-40 Mbps with heavy interference or older devices.

How network latency affect your mining or impact a solo miner if you ever find a block ?

The Bitcoin mining Process Step-by-Step:

  • Puzzle Solving: The solo miner's ASIC hardware repeatedly hashes block header data, changing the 'nonce' (a random number) until it finds a hash below the network's target difficulty.
  • Block Creation: Once a valid hash is found, the mining esp-miner software packages the block (including transactions and the successful nonce) and sends it to a local Bitcoin node.
  • Network Broadcast: The Local Bitcoin node broadcasts the completed block to the entire Bitcoin network.
  • Network Validation: Other Bitcoin nodes verify the block's validity, checking the transactions and the hash.
  • Blockchain Addition: If valid, Bitcoin nodes add the block to their copy of the blockchain, and the process resets for the next block (occurring roughly every 10 minutes).
  • Reward: The solo miner receives the full block reward (newly minted bitcoins + fees) in their designated Bitcoin address with no fee if using local hosted open source pool

In short:  You need a low acceptable and stable network latency to win the price even after you find a solution:

Solo Miner  == ( Lan/Wi-Fi ) ==   Stratum Pool == ( Node Broadcast ) == Entire Bitcoin Main Network
